Mr Bazaanah Prosper

 Mr Bazaanah Prosper was born in Dapuori of the Upper West Regio, Ghana. He Started his elementary education at the Roman Catholic Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, where he successfully completed his nine year compulsory basic education from 1989-1998. He continued to the St. James Seminary for his three year Senior Secondary School (SSS) education between 1999-2001. Upon completing SSS, he gained admission to pursue a four year Bachelors’ degree programme in 2003 at the University of Ghana. In 2007, he received a Second Class Upper (Honours) degree, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Philosophy. Upon graduation, he worked with the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana as a Teaching Assistant between 2007-2009, at both the Legon and Accra City Campuses. He latter pursued a Master of Philosophy degree in  Development Studies at the University of Cape Coast (2009-2012), 

specialising in rural development. Upon completion, he worked with Don Bosco Youth Network West Africa (an International NGO) as a Programmes, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and was specifically in charge of Anglophone West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone). He served the organization from 2012-2018. His combined knowledge, corporate experience and interest in human-environment nexus motivated his pursuit for Doctoral Degree in Development Studies at the University of Johannesburg.

His doctoral thesis examines “community water governance for sustainable local development in northern Ghana”. His Doctoral project is funded by the South African National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), under the African Pathways Doctoral Scholarship Programme. Mr Bazaanah has received many awards, both in Ghana and South Africa. Among these includes a three year Government of Ghana Bursary for his Masters’ Degree project which explored the nexus between fiscal decentralisation and local revenue mobilisation among selected districts in the Central Region of Ghana. While in South Africa, Mr Bazaanah is currently a recipient of four year Merit-Bursary and Supervisor-Linked Bursary awards and Best Tutor Award (2020) from the University of Johannesburg. He is currently, a Senior Tutor with the Department of Anthropology and Development Studies, University of Johannesburg. Among his current teaching and research supervision areas includes Development Policy and Theories, Water Resources, Governance and Development. He has widely published books, book chapters, newspapers and several articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is currently doing other research collaborative projects with researchers at the University of Zululand, University of Kwazulu Natal and the Management College of South Africa (MANCOSA).
